If you’re new to the world of podcasting, and looking to create your own, you might want to consider one of the two podcasting kits on the market here in the UK.
The Pinnacle Podcast Factory
This kit comes with a small mixer that connects to your PC or Mac via USB and a dynamic microphone with desk stand. The mini-mixer has a headphone socket, microphone input channel with gain control and signal LEDs, a switchable instrument / line in, and comes with a software bundle that allows you to record and edit audio, process MP3 files and publish the required RSS podcast feeds.
The Pinnacle Podcast factory kit is available from Maplin.co.uk.
The Behringer Podcastudio USB
Cheaper than the Pinnacle, this kit comes with a mixer, USB soundcard, mic, mic stand and headphones. The software bundle includes the Audacity editor, Kristal Audio Engine multi-track sequencer, plus podcasting tools Podifier, Juice, PodNova and Golden Ear. A great kit for those looking to get started. For more, see the Behringer Podcastudio review.
The Behringer Podcastudio USB kit is available from Gear 4 Music
The Samson CO1U USB Microphone
Not strictly a kit, but this is a great no-fuss solution. The Samson CO1U mic plugs straight into a PC’s USB socket – no need for a mixer or pre-amp. Decent quality and easy to set up – ideal for podcasters.
The Samson CO1U USB Condenser Microphone is available from Gear 4 Music
